A Song A Day – 31st March: My Intentions Are Good!

31 03 2011

Yesterday was an interesting day indeed. I had my haircut by an old friend from school (it was nice to catch up like) – and then… I got a job interview! It’s this coming Monday. I’m really excited. My role will be ‘Technical Tester’ – It’s up my street, the company looks great and it’s local also (which is good for several reasons) Fingers crossed!!

I want to give a nod towards my other blog which is now up and running. I’m going to attempt to put something on there everyday also if I can. This blog here is all about music. My 2nd blog is going to be about films and video games (retro gaming especially) – There’s going to be video content soon (hopefully) as well as recurring articles. You can check it out at http://thedigitaldomain.wordpress.com/ – Yes, I was surprised I got that domain name also!

Today’s song is another cut from the Kill Bill soundtrack. This one is called Don’t let me be misunderstood by Santa Esmeralda. It’s a funky upbeat disco number which makes you feel good. I love to crank this one. I totally dig these lyrics too.

Baby, do you understand me now?
Sometimes I feel a little mad
But, don’t you know that no one alive can always be an angel
When things go wrong I seem to be bad

I’m just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood

If I seem edgy
I want you to know
That I never meant to take it out on you
Life has its problems
And I got my share
And that’s one thing I never meant to do
‘Cause I love you

Baby, don’t you know I’m just human
And I’ve got thoughts like any other one
And sometimes I find myself, oh Lord, regretting
Some foolish thing, some foolish thing I’ve done

But I’m just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood

Oh Lord, don’t let me be misunderstood
Please don’t let me be misunderstood

Baby, do you understand me now?
Sometimes I feel a little mad
But, don’t you know that no one alive can always be an angel
When things go wrong I seem to be bad

‘Cause I’m just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood

Baby, sometimes I’m so carefree
With a joy that’s hard to hide
And sometimes it seems that, all I have to do is worry
And then you’re bound to see my other side

‘Cause I’m just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood

If I seem edgy
I want you to know
That I never meant to take it out on you
Life has its problems
And I got my share
And that’s one thing I never meant to do
‘Cause I love you

Oh, baby, don’t you know I’m human
I have thoughts like any other one
And sometimes I find myself, oh Lord, regretting
Some foolish thing, some foolish thing I’ve done

‘Cause I’m just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood

The 30 Day Song Challenge: 3/30 – A song that makes you dance.

2 03 2011

Dancing is not something I do often, nor is it something that I’m any good at! I think the closest I’ve come to ‘dancing’ is my 21st birthday party, which was fun I guess, if not totally my scene. I’m feeling a little distracted at the moment, I’m working away on my top 10 films post which i’m doing in conjunction with Seycen (Dark Vador) for the 14th… I’ve got an idea and I want to run with it.

I guess you could say that the closest I come to the dancing these days are the various poses and such like which I cannot help but throw whilst playing my guitar. It’s a rock-guitar thing. Posing in front of the mirror is part of the fun, and totally unashamedly so!!)

Actually, now that I think about, it’s time for a guilty pleasure song. I’m going to make no attempt to justify this… Simply put, I cannot – but it’s fun.

Back to working I go – will blog in more depth tomorrow!

A Song A Day: Feb 24th – Blurry Blogging!

25 02 2011

This is a perculiar typing experience. I seem to have developed conjunctivitus in my left eye which basically means i’m typing this with pretty much only one fully working eye! My right eye is tickety-boo, but my left eye is all bloodshot, puffed up and watering rather a lot. I look like a reject from a Sci-Fi B Movie! It’s seems easier to keep that eye shut and just use my right eye. My glasses aren’t really making much difference at this point. Everything has a subtle out-of-focus look to it at the moment, unless I open my left eye, at which point everything goes nice and sharp again. It really is perculiar!!! I think I get +1 points for randomness!

I was so tempted to post Blurred Vision by Queen, which on title merits is highly apt, but on song/lyrical content, quite the opposite. It’s basically One Vision, the 12″ version, which for casual everyday listening isn’t such a bad thing, but I wasn’t feeling like it was blogworthy.

So after some deliberation and mulling over, I suddenly remembered what day it was! Friday – and considering that we won the football match i mentioned last time, and that I have some potentially good news coming about the Hippodrome experience, I believe I should be thinking happy and positive, after all, I am in a good mood here! Just that I can’t see very well at the moment. So I’ve gone for an uptemo feel good number called Woo Hoo by The 5, 6, 7, 8’s

For the 2 minutes that this song lasts, I challenge you not to sit still. This song will make you wanna get up, boogie around the room and just let yourself go… for 120 secs! Hey, that’s got to be a good thing yes! At the very least I imagine some rhythmic tapping of the feet will occur!

A Song A Day: Jan 31st – Victory Is Mine!

31 01 2011

When I first conceived the idea for this blog, I didn’t really know how I’d feel about it. Sure, it was something I had passion and dedication for, but since starting this blog, it’s excelled all expectations I had. I was thinking about the blog since around mid December, then I discovered the postaday2011 challenge and that really inspired me to make a dream become a reality. Today is the last day of the first month, and to be honest,

barely a moment has gone past this month where I’ve not been thinking about this blog. Songs, ideas, do I do this, do I do that etc etc. I really want to thank each and every person who has come to this blog and read the blog, left a comment, subscribed, bookmarked, tweeted and whatever else you’ve done. You’ve really made me smile and I value each and every single reader here.

V is for Victory!

So, onto todays post. Continuing with the theme of the victory, todays offering touches upon a very special part of my childhood which I still relive and enjoy to this day. I remember about 9 months ago now, I was about to turn my laptop off after noticing I’d strayed into the wee hours of the morning (you know it’s late when the hours are in single figures!) yet for some reason, I felt compelled to check my email inbox. BOY! I’m glad that I did. I’m subscribed to the ticketmaster newsletter thing, and the email was that Michael Flatley was reprising his role as Lord of the Dance for a string of special performances as a ‘victory lap’ for the fans.

This immediatley got me reaching for the wallet. I didn’t even care they cost £55 a ticket! To put it into context. I’ve now seen Michael live 4 times since the 1990s (this being the 4th, 3 times for Lord of The Dance (I was fortunate to be at the last ever uk performance on the original run when I was about 9) and once for Celtic Tiger) — to say I’m something off a diehard hardcore fan is true. After watching my recorded version from the TV for 96th time, the video broke. I now have all the shows and soundtracks across VHS, DVD and CD (sometimes multiples. Heck! I even have my 1997 tour t-shirt stashed away safely) I’ve probabaly watched the show in excess of 250 times (total guess, but could be a fair estimation!) So, I grew up watching the show and the chance to see it live with Michael performing one more time was an oppotunity to good to miss. I asked Milky if she wanted to go (we’d been together a few weeks by this point) showed her the website and she came along. She absolutely loved it from start to end. To try and convey how much it meant to take my girlfriend to see it would be impossible, but it almost felt like a baton passing. When I’m still in Primary School my parents took me to see it, and now 13/14 years later I’m taking my GF to see it. It almost felt like a combination of my life. It’s the childhood days fused together with my twenty-something years. The thing that really struck me is how universal the show is and how someone from the otherside of the world and a culture quite removed from the UK/west can sit there and keep a permanently fixed smile of breath-taken awe for 2 hours! Anyway. I’m beginning to ramble here so I’m going to go ahead on post the video. This section of the show is called ‘Victory’ and is the first of 3 finale pieces if you like. This paticular video is taken from the ‘Feet of Flames’ concert (which is essentially Lord of the Dance uncut!)
