A Song A Day: April 8th – Don’t Unplug Me.

8 04 2011

Tux

I want a pet Tux...

It’s hard to fathom it, but anyone who’s undertaken the post-a-day challenge will be approaching day 100 this weekend – that’s at least 1 blog post a day for 100 days straight. That’s a very big achievement in my books. Nearly a 1/3 of the way through the challenge!

As of now, I’m also a member of blogcritics. I had an email talking about who they are and what they do. Has anybody else had any experience with them, or do they use/write for blogcritics themselves? If so, leave me a comment or drop me a line/message somehow (see contact page above)

In the past few days I’ve been getting ubuntu linux under my belt. I had it on my previous laptop as a dual boot but before I really got to know it, I ended up loosing the laptop to a severe graphics card malfunction. Now I have it back and I’m absolutely loving it. The amount of open-source software which is freely available is staggering and much like the iPad or iPhone – ‘there’s an app for that…’

So, with today’s topic loosely connected to technology and that, I began to think about apt songs along the lines of that theme. Then I remembered about a song that my friend Simon had sent me in the form of a Youtube video. I won’t lie to you, the song is a total geek fest, but it’s one of those totally awesome things that only happens when the geeks of the world combine with the interwebs.

The song’s premise  is kinda simple. There are two ‘robots’ who are in love, but one of them is due for an upgrade, however when the one is upgraded to version 2, things are not quite as they were before. The song is a light-hearted electro-pop romp that’s actually kinda catchy and cute.

This is a popular music video created by ‘Meekakitty’ – The actual song is called Don’t Unplug Me by the All Caps.

Don’t unplug me
or just shut me down
Please just love me
with your steel heart
I’d reboot you
If you’d look at me
With those cold eyes
One more time

I remember, our software was compatible
I think I felt my circuit board ignite
You held my hand in your metallic grip
We may be machines but I’m in love tonight

Baby there is something I have to say
I think it’s time for my upgrade
I would look so good in version two
But I promise that it’s me, not you

Don’t unplug me
or just shut me down
Please just love me
with your steel heart
I’d reboot you
If you’d look at me
With those cold eyes
One more time

Can you hear me, you haven’t moved an inch
Is this a system failure, what should I do?
Your new interface it seems to have some bugs
You’re not responding, I think they broke you

Hello and welcome to version two
Tell me what can I do for you?
What is a hug that does not compute
Please stand by for my system reboot

Just got the memo
about this upgrade to version two
it removes extraneous programs
that means emotions like loving you
I don’t wanna lose myself
or ever have to say goodbye
I want to hold on to my consciousness
I don’t want to die

A Song A Day: Feb 28th – 12 in 1!

28 02 2011

It’s Monday again! I’m excited about March being just one day away now – I’ll be undertaking the 30 day song challenge (which is doing the rounds on facebook) throughout March, see the link above.

This afternoon onwards I’ve been thinking about my favourite films in some detail. The reason being is because I’ve done a deal with fellow bloggette and film fan Dark Vador and we’re going to be making a top 10 post in the forthcoming days, which we’ll both post on the 14th March. So, 2 weeks from today. The trouble is, trying to sum up my favourite films is going to be harder then I think – but, there again I like a challenge, and it’s all a good bit of friendly fun.

So there I was with Evernote open making notes and ideas about films and possible wordage to go alongside them, whilst listening to my film soundtracks playlist open in Spotify. This following track came on, and it was stuck in my head for the rest of the day. It’s also a very cheeky way to cram more songs into this blog. It’s a medley of many a well known love song strung together and sung in a very grandiose style. This is the Elephant Love Medley from Moulin Rouge… which may or may not be making an appearance in the aforementioned top 10 list!

Christian: Love is a many splendored thing,
Love lifts us up where we belong, all you need is love.
Satine: Please, don’t start that again.

C: All you need is love.
S: A girl has got to eat.

C: All you need is love.
S: Or she’ll end up on the streets.

C: All you need is love.
S: Love is just a game.

C: I was made for loving you baby, you were made for loving me.
S: The only way of loving me baby, is to pay a lovely fee.

C: Just one night, give me just one night.
S: There’s no way, ’cause you can’t pay.

C: In the name of love, one night in the name of love.
S: You crazy fool, I won’t give in to you.

C: Don’t leave me this way,
I can’t survive without your sweet love, oh baby
Don’t leave me this way.
S: You’d think that people would have had enough of silly love songs.
C: I look around me and I see, it isn’t so, oh no.
S: Some people want to fill the world with silly love songs.

C: Well what’s wrong with that? I’d like to know.
‘Cause here I go again!
Love lifts us up where we belong,
Where eagles fly, on a mountain high.
S: Love makes us act like we are fools,
Throw our lives away, for one happy day.

C: We could be heroes! Just for one day.
S: You, you will be mean.

C: No I won’t!
S: And I, I’ll drink all the time.

C: We should be lovers.
S: We can’t do that.

C: We should be lovers, and that’s a fact.
S: Though nothing, will keep us together.

C: We could steal time…
Both: Just for one day. We could be heroes, forever and ever.
We could be heroes, forever and ever. We could be heroes…
C: Just because I will always love you.

S: I
Both: Can’t help loving you
S: How Wonderful life is
Both: Now you are in the world

A Song A Day: Feb 14th – Monday Mornings, Valatines and Giveaway Draw!

14 02 2011

It’s Monday! My favourite day of the week. That may shock a few, but I always like that feeling of a new week bringing new goodnees and that. I have a good week planned. I’m spending time with Milky, I’ve got some potentially exciting job prospects on the table also! I’ve been invited to the Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre to take a look around backstage in a meet and greet session. I’m very much looking forward to it – It could be a fabulous opportunity for me. I became interested in Video and Film via an initial interest in LX for the stage and some of the skills translate across. Fingers crossed!

I’m also going to be stepping things up on this blog. I’ve got a neat idea and want to see if it’ll work – More to follow naturally! Before I get onto the songs, I need to attend to the matter of who won The War Of The Worlds CD in my recent giveaway competition.

Thankyou to everyone who visited my blog and subsequently followed me on twitter and the link. It’s great to have your support. As for the giveaway, there are 112 entrants in the draw. They’ve been numbered as the comments came in. I used the random number generator over at random.org to pick out a number between 1 and 112 inclusive. As you can see from the image the winner was entrant number 66!   That means the winner of the giveaway and soon to be receiving a brand new copy of Jeff Waynes Musical Version of War Of The Worlds is…. lazyboyblue – congratulations to you. I’ll be making contact shortly to arrange posting. Well done! There will be more giveaways in the future if I have my way!

Now, that’s sorted… onto today’s posting. It’s valatines day in the UK so I can’t realistically post anything else besides a message to my wonderful girlfriend Milky. It’s fast approaching one year that we’ve been together now and I’ve loved every moment. I still find it hard to believe that even though we were born thousands of miles apart our paths crossed like they do. I’m very grateful for every moment you give to me. From the bottom of my heart, I love you and here’s to a wonderfully prosperous future together! 我爱你我的漂亮! – You know my ventures into Chinese contemporary music are limited, but everytime I hear this song I think of you. This one goes out to you.

The Song is in Chinese, but English subtitles are in the video!

On an unrelated random note also, I’m writing out a post about a love song, yet I’m actually listening to some heavy metal as I write – such are my spotify playlists!

A Song A Day: Jan 29th – Where Is The Love?

29 01 2011

I’ll go out on a limb, and hazard a guess that this might be the least comfortable posistion that I’ll ever blog from. I had no idea that this day, nor this week would end up being pretty damn awesome. Through a bizarre set of circumstances and almost serendipitous timing, I’ve ended up this week with some nice new shiny toys, courtesy of an exchange due to a broken laptop under warranty from my local computer store, and my mobile phone contract being eligible for an upgrade. I’m still getting to grips with the new features, buttons and general whiz-bangarey (is that a real word) which makes looking at new gadgets so much fun! So the reason I’m in a slightly awkward posistion, is because i’m surrounded by boxes, packaging, and cables, with a sort of Daniel shaped area where I’m placed at this moment!

So after coming back from my local town this evening, I was sitting down to eat my dinner when the news came on. Nothing noteworthy there you may enquire, but considering the lead story on the 6 o clock news was the recent trouble in Egypt, it got me thinking. I was looking at the sequence of pictures along with the report of what happened. As I was watching this news report, I was suddenly reminded of a great song which seems to have more relevance and poignancy then ever before.

Today’s actions reminded me of the student protests in London last November at the changes to tuition fees. When you see these mass scenes of hysteria and rioting, it can’t help but to raise a few questions.I feel as though these questions are aptly covered in todays song choice. The song contains some wonderfully inspiring and moving lyrics and an absolutely fantastic chorus. The music video to this song was also very well-made. This really has to be one of my favourite songs ever – The Black Eyed Peas – Where Is The Love?

What’s wrong with the world mama?
People living like aint got no mamas
I think the whole worlds addicted to the drama
Only attracted to the things that bring you trauma
Overseas yeah we tryin to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin
In the USA the big CIA the Bloodz and the Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And if you hatin you’re bound to get irate
Yeah madness is what you demonstrate
And that’s exactly how anger works and operates
You gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love y’all

People killing people dying
Children hurtin you hear them crying
Can you practice what you preach
Would you turn the other cheek?
Father Father Father help us
Send some guidance from above
Cause people got me got me questioning
Where is the love?

It just ain’t the same all ways have changed
New days are strange is the world the insane?
If love and peace so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don’t belong
Nations dropping bombs
Chemical gases filling lungs of little ones
With ongoing suffering
As the youth die young
So ask yourself is the loving really strong?
So I can ask myself really what is going wrong
With this world that we living in
People keep on giving in
Makin wrong decisions
Only visions of them livin and
Not respecting each other
Deny thy brother
The wars’ going on but the reasons’ undercover
The truth is kept secret
Swept under the rug
If you never know truth
Then you never know love
Where’s the love y’all? (I don’t know)
Where’s the truth y’all? (I don’t know)
Where’s the love y’all?

People killing people dying
Children hurtin you hear them crying
Can practice what you preach
Would you turn the other cheek?
Father father father help us
Send some guidance from above
Cause people got me got me questioning
Where is the love?

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I’m getting older y’all people get colder
Most of us only care about money makin
Selfishness got us followin the wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting their young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what the see in the cinema
Whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness and equality
Instead of spreading love, we’re spreading anomosity
Lack of understanding, leading us away from unity
That’s the reason why sometimes I’m feeling under
That’s the reason why sometimes I’m feeling down
It’s no wonder why sometimes I’m feeling under
I gotta keep my faith alive, until love is found

People killing people dying
Children hurtin you hear them crying
Can you practice what you preach
Would you turn the other cheek?
Father Father Father help us
Send some guidance from above
Cause people got me got me questioning
Where is the love?
