First #fantasygamechat Today (via #fantasygamechat)

Keep an eye on this blog, please!

Can’t wait. It’ll be starting in about half an hour.  I have decided I don’t want this blog to just be a repository for the #Fantasygamechat archive, although that will be part of the function of the blog. I hope to make it a place that people can come to all week for information about Fantasy Gaming.  I want to tie it in to the chats every week – maybe have articles that expand on the topics that come up in chat. I know that just ike in a pen an … Read More

A Song A Day: 26th March – What If Tetris…Had Lyrics?!

26 03 2011

What if Tetris had lyrics? Well, this is one of the many conondrums of life, but was answered by a guy called Brentalfloss on Youtube. He specialises in video game music (especially retro nintendo titles) reworked with humourous lyrics. He’s given the brentalfloss treatment to Mario, Zelda, Megaman, Ducktales, and more.

Yes, I am revealling my inner-nerd here (we all have one) but it’s just too funny not to pass up. Today’s song shouldn’t be taken too seriously clearly, but a light-hearted piece of fun taking the mickey out of a video game classic.

There are some slightly adult lyrics in here – just a quick warning incase you have small children nearby. But, nothing majorly offensive!

(One-y and a two-ey and a three and four)
Shapes made of four colored blocks like a T or a box come down like falling bricks
You can place them in rows, but everybody knows that they made this game for chicks (HEY!)

Mom just loves to flip and stack
Grandma says this shit is like crack! (Well it is!)

This is the game girls deserve, there is no learning curve
Which makes it great for noobs (grrreat for noobs!)
It will fill you with glee, especially if you have a vaj and boobs (HEY!)

Your mom loves it, mine does too (mine does too)
Call me sexist, bitch it’s still true (just kidding about the bitch part)

Deep in a girl’s dainty brain, there’s a spot near a vein (Right here)
Which regulates their bliss (The T-spot)
Once they see falling blocks, the T-spot unlocks
And they start to sing like this (SING!)

LA LA LA LA LA LA LA
WE LOVE TETRIS, LA LA LA LA

Here is a trick I have learned
To avoid getting burned
When you piss off your chick (I’m so mad!)

If you sing this on key,
Immediately she’ll forget that you’re a dick (Try it!)

LA LA LA LA (I’m still mad.) LA LA LA (Is that the Tetris song?)
LA LA LA LA (I love Tetris!) LA LA LA (I’m happy now!)

Tetris helps when chicks want to neuter us (Snip, snip, snip)
If you love it, you probably have a uterus!

A Song A Day: Feb 4th – Teardrop

4 02 2011

Without realising it, I’m developing a pre-blog post routine. It dawned on me today, the little quirks stood out and I realised that i’d been doing it for a little while now. I seem to lie a certain way, with things arranged around me in a certain order, I open windows in a certain way and I go about constructing the post in a certain way. I’m not superstitious, because I know that’s unlucky, but I don’t want to change it because of the possibilities that could emerge. So after that slightly random start – onto todays post…

Todays post is a wonderfully chilled out, laid back smooth tune with some gorgeous poetic lyrics and a vocal performance to boot. I’m feeling very relaxed at this point in time. I had a surprise visit from my friend Sarah today which was just wonderful, despite talking everyday on MSN messenger, catching up in person is so much better – things can be conveyed so much deeper. My beloved Milky is coming over tomorrow for the day, before a weekend involving Chelsea Vs. Liverpool, Chinese New Year celebrations in the city and something called a Superbowl…

Prior to writing this post I’d been plodding my way through what can only be described as a video game beyond video games. Easily one of the games I’ve ever played on any console, Uncharted 2 on the PS3 is godlike. I only got the console as a freebie (as such) with my new phone contract, and I picked up uncharted 2 based on universal acclaim at a bargin price for being in the right place at the right time. The game is just breath-taking, it’s uber-cinematic and has had me picking my jaw up off the ground several times during the cutscenes and that. The action in the game is just like a block-buster movie. You dont know what happens next. It could be anything from there being an explosion, to the floor giving away to anything. Heck, the character you play as has already been double-crossed twice!

Anyway… I’m stuck in some frozen mountains at the moment. Whilst trying to find a solution to a puzzle posed ahead of me, I took a moment to look around the area (as you do) to see if there were any clues, pathways, openings etc. So whilst I’m screen searching, the snowy landscape invoked a piece of music in my head, which I could hear playing over the visuals from the game, and that’s what I’m presenting to you here today. This song is called Teardrop by Massive Attack. This is such a beautiful song in my humble opinion and I hope you enjoy it.

Slightly perculiar video, but I guess it fits…

Love, love is a verb
Love is a doing word
Fearless on my breath
Gentle impulsion
Shakes me, makes me lighter
Fearless on my breath

Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath

Nine night of matter
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath

Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my…

Water is my eye
Most faithful mirror
Fearless on my breath
Teardrop on the fire
Of a confession
Fearless on my breath
Most faithful mirror
Fearless on my breath

Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath

You’re stumbling a little
You’re stumbling a little

A Song A Day: Jan 22 – Random Inspiration

22 01 2011

I’d like to start things off by thanking everybody who has visited my blog since the turn of the new year. Yesterday was my most popular day so far! I want to thank each and every reader, my regulars, my commenters, my subcribers and more.

I’ve taken to posting on this blog in the small hours of the morning. A very good blog post not so long back by Kim over at Dragonfly Scrolls talked about your personal writing time, or as she dubbed it, the write time of day. I feel as though I’m able to make better choices and I feel more connected to the music and the blog late at night. It’s around the 2am mark at the moment!

Today’s song came from the most unlikely of places, or one that I wasn’t expecting. This is part of the appeal for me, the song I put up can arise from all kinds of situations. One thing I’ve not really talked about so far on this blog is my enjoyment of Video Games. One of my favourite games of all-time is Mirrors Edge. I’m working my way through it slowly. I know it’s an older game (by video game standards) but I didn’t get it until recent times, and at £5, I couldn’t grumble.

The game is like nothing else I’ve played before. It’s a first person platformer, with aspects of FPS, stealth, fighting and the age old tried and tested video game method of run-like-hell away from the bad guys. One of the things that struck me though was the overall design of the game. It’s just different, at times it’s minimalistic, then it’ll be full on the next. The use of colour is astounding. It’s almost like a Zhang Yimou film. Today’s track comes from the score of the game. It’s by Lisa Miskovsky and it’s called Still Alive. It’s a sweet sounding song, but the lyrics are in contrast to the overall tonality of the piece in my opinion!

The cake is a li—oh… wait.. not that Still Alive……(Cyber Cookies for the first person to tell me what that’s referencing in a comment)

I have changed
I have changed
Just like you
Just like you
For how long
For how long
Must I wait
I know there’s something wrong
Your concrete heart isn’t beating
And I’ve tried to
Make it come alive
No shadows
Just red lights
Now I’m here to rescue you oh
Oh I’m still alive
I’m still alive
But can not apologize, no
Oh I’m still alive
I’m still alive
But can not apologize, no
So silent
No violence
But inside my head
So loud and clear
You’re screaming
You’re screaming
Covered up with a smile I’ve learned to fear
Just sunshine
And blue sky
Is this all we get
For living here
Come fire
Come fire
Let it burn and love come racing through
Oh I’m still alive
I’m still alive
But can not apologize, no
Oh I’m still alive
I’m still alive
But can not apologize, no
I’ve learn to lose
I’ve learn to win
I’ve turned my face against the wind
I will move fast
I will move slow
Take me where I have to go
Oh I’m still alive, I’m still alive
But can not apologize, no
